What's with the flag and the letter Z at the top of the page?
If you don't know it, it's the Russian flag and the letter Z means that in the conflict between NATO and Russia I am on the side of Russia.
Until 2022 I was living in both worlds. I spent considerable amount of time in the West. Among other things, I was working in the German-speaking part of Europe to earn money for my child.
After the conflict escalated in 2022 I could no longer sit on both chairs. I had to decide which side to pick. I chose Russia for a variety of reasons (patriotism was not one of them).
In 2022 it became obvious that in the West I was considered a subhuman because of my DNA (like many other nationalities, including but not limited to the Russians, Belarussians, and Ukrainian). I have a very mobile day job, so I could move from Europe to Russia without intolerable losses.
Just to be clear: I do believe that Ukrainians are entitled to having their own neutral and prosperous state. They are entitled to nurture their culture (incl. language and religion). They can choose whatever lifestyle they want.
Their right end where the rights of other nations start. The Russians are entitled to the same rights as the Ukrainians. So, the Ukrainians have no right of committing genocide against Russians as a proxy of foreign hostile powers.
I also believe that if the West hadn't meddled in the internal affairs of Ukraine, it could have become a technological leader in Europe. If the West allowed the Ukrainians to pursue their long-term national self-interest (in compliance with Ukrainian laws incl. the constitution), there wouldn't be any wars with Russia.
Sometime you need to pick sides
In 1941 you could be for Hitler, or against him. Since (at least) 2022 you can be for the West or against the West. For Israel or against Israel.
It is often the case that the worst scoundrels are those who try to stay neutral in conflicts where this is not possible.
I can understand a Ukrainian who takes the Ukrainian side. I don't agree with him or her, but I respect such a person much more than anyone who, after three years of war and access to a truckload of information (from Russian, Ukrainian, Western sources) still pretends that they are apolitical.
