Chapter 23

Vienna University of Economics and Business, Welthandelsplatz 1, 2nd district of Vienna

Lisa is sitting in the library in front of her notebook. The folder with Timur's files is lying next to it.

A tall man with short blond hair comes in. He is about the same age as Lisa. He sees Lisa and puts on a smile on his face. He comes closer, and Lisa sees that his fingernails are painted pink.

He would be cute, if he wasn't trying so hard to suppress his masculinity, Lisa thinks.

"Hello, Lisa," He says. "The lecture is about to start."

"Thanks for reminding me, Tim," Lisa says. "I got distracted. Forgot the time."

She stands up and packs her stuff while Tim is waiting.

"You did a lot of research recently, huh?" Tim says.

He points at Timur's folder.

"Kind of," Lisa says. "I am thinking of completely changing the topic of my thesis."

They go to the lecture hall.

"Isn't it almost finished?" Tim says.

"Correct," Lisa says. "But last weekend, I came across some information that flips the whole narrative."

They enter the lecture hall and sit down.

"I don't imagine what could possibly change," Tim says. "Your thesis is about Russia's reparations to Ukraine, right?"

"It was until now," Lisa says.

"I don't see what you can possibly change there," Tim says. "Russia's annexation of Crimea, illegal. Support of the separatists, illegal. Ukraine losses, agreed upon by everyone. That's consensus."

"That's the problem," Lisa says. "You don't stand out by stating the obvious."

The lecturer, Dr. Franziska Zemanek, enters the lecture hall. She is also Lisa's supervisor.

"But how–" Tim says.

"Silence, please," Dr. Zemanek says.
